Re: Football Discussion Thread

But the same argument could be made about nationalism or regionalism... I prefer your friend's position: be proud of what you want to be proud of, but don't put ideology behind it. That's when it gets dangerous.

Re: The French Dispatch (2020)

That, I very much agree with. It really is a shame. Although, I don't think we should be too concerned with Wes (or PT) Anderson's box office results. As long as they don't ask for more than 30-40 millions, I think they will find money for their films. I'm much more concerned with Fincher and Villen...

Re: The French Dispatch (2020)

The french part of the cast has been announced, and it's quite big: Mathieu Amalric, Vincent Lacoste, Benjamin Lavernhe, Vincent Macaigne, Félix Moati, Guillaume Gallienne, Cécile de France, Denis Ménochet, Léa Seydoux. https://twitter.com/jeremiecouston/status/1090643146642464768 Guess like for Is...

Re: The French Dispatch (2020)

And the English cast is Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Benicio del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Saoirse Ronan, Kate Winslet, and Timothée Chalamet? Am I leaving anyone out? Sad to not see Ed Norton or Adrien Brody return. I also read O.Wilson, W.Dafoe, A.Brody, Bob Balaban, and Henry Winkl...

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

I agree with that too! Like the fainting spells at the beginning, I was like "okay is this chick pretending?" Have you read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt? They're totally different works but both works do share the themes of how inanimate objects give our life some amount of meaning and they also de...

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

The Earrings of Madame de This is such a beautiful and engaging film. The set pieces are so dreamy and the acting is fantastic. Off topic but on topic I lost a pair of really beautiful earrings a few years ago and I hope I can find them again someday. This really is one of the greats. Did you get t...

Re: First Man (2018)

I understand that the very dual structure of the film can be an issue. But I think it works for two reasons which are Hurwitz and Gosling. Gosling's understated performance really connects the dots for me, and the fact that the entire music is basically the same theme played differently depending on...

Re: Untitled Nolan Film - Cast Discussion/Speculation

For information, according to his DP Benoit Debie, Gosling is getting ready to shoot his second film. Debie said in september, in an interview for french magazine cinemateaser, that Gosling had refused Netflix offer to finance the film. Apparently, he's still trying to get people to fund his film as...
