Dunkirk $550,000 (+112% / -41%)
The 2017 World War II thriller about the evacuation of British and Allied troops from Dunkirk beach.
Wow, he thinks it could reach $25-30m. That would definitely lock up the $500m worldwide total. I figure it needs at least $10m there to do it. Hacksaw Ridge only made $2.5m there, which makes the market a pretty big wild card. That movie was all about slaughtering Japanese soldiers, which might explain why it performed so well in China and had such a poor performance in Japan.Innovator wrote:It looks like Dunkirk might indeed overperform in Japan: https://forums.boxofficetheory.com/topi ... nt-3172944
If the numbers hold, the total run in Japan will most likely make up for China's numbers and the movie can reach that milestone after all.

Nolan is about to become the first filmmaker to achieve 5 500M movies in a row.
When things are all said and done, I believe your prediction will be perfectly on point. Thanks for all your posts. I have very much enjoyed your analysis together with that by Mr. Master Virgo and Mr. Redfirebird.
To Mr. Redfirebird, I believe you've chosen to be bit conservative with your view on Dunkirk. In light of the stronger than expected opening in Japan, how high do you think Dunkirk will shoot to worldwide?
