Re: The Irishman (2019)

About voice-over, I agree that Scorsese tend to use it to often in his films. In The Departed, Gangs of New York... it's doesn't bring much. In The age of innocence, which is one of my favourite Scorsese, Joanne Woodward reads parts of the book, but Scorsese isn't able to do this book/film mix as we...

Re: The Irishman (2019)

I find most of you quite severe with the first hour, which I very much enjoyed. The opening travelling is great. The relation between Pesci and De Niro and the slow descent into crime of De Niro makes it quite great imo. The flash-back from WW2 is quite great. The first scene with Romano is great co...

What's the significance of the movies in bold? Are they new additions or the best of the best?
Best of the best.

By the way, I will probably add The Irishman, though it's too early to be sure. Let's see the effect of time first.

Re: The Irishman (2019)

The best film of the year with Parasite. It's a masterpiece, give Schoonmaker all the awards. The soundtrack is incredible, there are some travelling that are just WOW! Let's talk influences: in terms of mafia film, it made me think more of Godfather Part 2 than Goodfellas, in the sense that it's mo...

At least this doesn't look like everything else mainstream out there. We're afraid of different at first.
There are some good reasons to be afraid though, but I agree that at least the film is doing something new, and that there is an expressionism in the visuals that is exciting.

Re: Untitled Joker Sequel (TBA)

I was talking to a coworker on how a supposed sequel could work and an interesting idea popped up: Another origin movie with the same cast, but an entirely different situation. A Jokerverse of different origins with Joaquin as different Jokers would be kinda nuts. Never happening though My idea wou...
