Re: 1917 (2019)

Very good film, 9/10. Now to dive in: It reminds me mostly of The Thin red line, in the sense that I think that one of the main theme is the struggle between humanity and nature. It all starts when Schofield talks about when he went home, and how nothing was the same. He at first only tries to survi...

Re: Marriage Story (2019)

Yet Marriage story is about people who have quite a great life, whilst the characters of Blue Valentine have a very hard life. Some of the hardest moment of Blue Valentine are not about their break-up: Williams hesitating to abort, Gosling being beaten up, Williams'completely dysfunctional family, a...

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

People are alwyas going to be mad when nominations are announced, and you can't please everybody and Best actor and supporting actor are the best examples of it (I mean, who would you not nominate to put De Niro, Egerton, Dafoe...?), but overall, it's quite a good list. The biggest award contender a...

Re: Little Women (2019)

It's an amazing film. Filled with joy and sincerity. Gorgeous, funny, great acting, beautiful score... It may not hit as strong emotionnally as The Irishman or be as challenging as Parasite, so it may not be my favourite of the year, but it's really up there. It's just perfect.

Re: 2019-2020 Awards Season

To be fair, the academy award for best music should already be in Desplat's living room. And, if it wasn't for The Irishman, best adapted screenplay should also aready be in Gerwig's. Supporting actor is so strong this year that I can't blame them if they don't nominate Chalamet, although he's amazi...

Re: Untitled Knives Out Sequel (TBD)

I don't know if bringing her back could be that much more than fan service. I'd rather they let her on the side than bring her back just to be there without any character development. I'd like to see the two cops come back though. If the film takes the perspective of Blanc, it can be an interesting ...

Re: Recommend Me A Movie Topic

For people who are fluent in French, there is a 2-part youtube video essay by someone called Durendal1 that dissects Gone With the Wind in great detail. For people who are not fluent in French, you will get as much information from this video as people who are fluent, that is to say none. This yout...

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI

Bram Stoker's Dracula : This still is the definitive adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's such a beautiful film, from both a technical point of view as on a narrative point of view. There's not a single moment where the story drags, the opening prologue is a fantastic introduction and Coppola ...

Re: Recommend Me A Movie Topic

I agree that GWTW isn't forced to tackle racism, but I understand that some would have an issue with this, and there are definitely one or two scenes that would be better cut out. And yes, Rhett and most southerners are quite described as assholes. By the way, on repeat viewings, I side more and mor...
